Crossroads: The Films of Bruce Conner – Thu @ SFMOMA 0

Crossroads: The Films of Bruce Conner
Phyllis Wattis Theater, SFMOMA
7:00 p.m.

“A seminal, deeply American artist, Conner (1933–2008) was a master of irony and juxtaposition. Arguably the inventor of the found-footage film genre, Conner created films that are veritable X-rays of the 20th-century American mind, exposing and describing collective fantasies and fears while ultimately remaining deeply personal, intimate, and darkly elusive. This celebration of his work includes Cosmic Ray, Mongoloid, America Is Waiting, Ten Second Film, Vivian, Breakaway, Marilyn Times Five, Report, Looking for Mushrooms, and Crossroads.”

$10 general; $7 SFMOMA and SF Cinematheque members, students, and seniors.
Tickets are available at the museum (with no surcharge) or online.

Eliane Radigue – Naldjorlak 9

Eliane Radigue
Naldjorlak
Shiiin CD – 2008

Recorded at Chapelle Notre-Dame de Bon Secours in Paris on the 18th of September 2006.

Created in close collaboration with Charles Curtis, Naldjorlak is the first entirely acoustic composition by a composer who has pioneered pure electronic sound for over thirty years. Delicate in its dynamic range, the work explores highly diffuse bowed textures that defy perceptual focus; the hidden, untamed ur-sonority of the cello is revealed as a deeply unstable and complex source. The Tibetan title refers to the motion of all life toward unity; in a seamlessly interwoven three-part structure, the audible shape mirrors the geography of the cello.
