Everyone knows Roy Montgomery’s post Dadamah work, but is anyone checking out Kim Pieters and Peter Stapleton’s post-Dadamah work? Flies Inside The Sun, Rain, Pieters/Russell/Stapleton, Doramaar, Sleep and Eye – all worth checking out…

good call andrew..i listened to .rain and flies inside the sun nonstop throughout my 22nd year.

    surface of the earth too.

‘le jazz non’ compilation is the ultimate mixtape for nz jams

Yeah, ‘Sycamore’ by Rain (good luck finding that, most copies were destroyed in a fire) and ‘An Audience Of Others (Including Herself)’ by Flies Inside The Sun are probably the best places to start with post-Dadamah non-Roy stuff.
Actually most of the songs on ‘An Audience Of Others (Including Herself) are actually Dadamah songs that were written before the band split up and were just pushed further ‘out’ by Flies once Danny Butt and Brian Crook joined.

Excellent extensive interview about the history of Dadamah and related bands is at http://noise.as/flies_rain – take from the legendary Opprobrium mahazine.

….and yeah, Surface Of The Earth is the guitar band to end all guitar bands.

their 7″s can be found here: http://experimentaletc.blogspot.com/search/label/Dadamah. both High Time and Radio Brain are fantastic songs! they also had a one-minute track on this sampler compilation, released by Drag City: http://kiwitapes.blogspot.com/2007/01/various-artists-i-hear-devil-calling-me.html
