E.A.R are amazing, Porter Ricks are amazing, but I think this one just doesn’t work. I actually think it’s kind of a low point in their respective discographies. Maybe if you haven’t hear the source material that they’re working with (The ‘Beyond The Pale’ LP) it’s OK, but…

i think this one works real well in a sort of kompakt/pop-ambient way. but no, it’s not at all like the rest of the e.a.r. discography.
But the thing that gets me about it is that when you put it side by side with Beyond The Pale it just doesn’t sound like Koner or Mellwig have put any effort into it. You hear the original tracks from Beyond The Pale almost completely untouched playing below the beats at low volume. It’s not even really that Koner is using EAR as source material or something – it’s more like he’s just literally playing over the top of EAR’s last album. Feels like a missed opportunity to me…
